Chinch Bug Information

Chinch Bugs | Caterpillars | Mole Crickets

You could have Chinch Bugs! The southern chinch bug is the most common nuisance to St. Augustine grass in Florida. An adult chinch bug is approximately 1/5 of an inch long and black in color with white patches on the wings.

Chinch bugs are most harmful to St. Augustine grass, but will also feed on other species. Chinch bugs deplete the juice of grass plants by sucking it through their needle like 'beak'. The end result is the yellow to brown patches in your lawn. These damaged areas are initially noticed along concrete or asphalt paved edges or in water-stressed areas where the grass is growing in direct sun.
